South Fork Community Foundation Brings Regional Partners Together to Strengthen Food Assistance

One of the greatest strengths of a community foundation is its ability to bring people together around issues that matter. That philosophy was recently demonstrated when the South Fork Community Foundation organized and hosted a regional meeting focused on food security for South Fork and neighboring communities.

Representatives from organizations serving residents throughout South Fork, Creede, and the San Luis Valley gathered to discuss current food assistance programs, identify opportunities for greater collaboration, and explore ways to improve awareness and access for individuals and families who rely on these vital services.

Participants included food bank leaders, local government representatives, churches, nonprofit organizations, and community volunteers—all sharing a common goal of ensuring that no one in our region goes hungry.

The meeting provided an opportunity for organizations to exchange information about the services they currently provide, discuss challenges facing their communities, and identify ways to better coordinate outreach and distribution efforts. By bringing these diverse groups together, the Foundation helped create new relationships and strengthen existing partnerships that will benefit residents throughout the region.

While the South Fork Community Foundation does not operate a food bank, it plays an important role as a community convener. By identifying needs, facilitating conversations, and encouraging collaboration among organizations, SFCF helps create solutions that no single organization could accomplish alone.

This initiative reflects the Foundation’s broader mission of enhancing the quality of life in South Fork and the surrounding communities.
